San Carlos battery

Although this battery was located in the estuary before the one at San Cristóbal, we must begin by visiting this one. This is a neoclassical battery designed by Juan de Ferrière and Juan Vergel. It was part of a fortification project for the mouth of the Ferrol estuary and served as support for the San Felipe, La Palma and San Martín castles. It has two front lines: one facing the estuary and the other facing the inlet. It has a large hornwork. The material used was masonry. It is an example of military architecture and offers magnificent views of the estuary.
