In the form of an obelisk and in a neoclassical style, it was erected under the orders of the unit´s commander general, Antonio de Arce in 1787.
It has a large base in the form of a pedestal on which a pyramidal structure rests displaying on its four sides the coat of arms of Spain, Galicia, Ferrol and the navy in bas-relief.
In the twentieth century, the bronze repute (“fama”) statue was added, with two trumpets which allude to good or bad repute. It was moved from its original location at the dock door to its current location at the park door in 1958.
