PEREIRA HOUSE (172 María)

Designed by Rodolfo Ucha between 1912 and 1913.

The structural freedom of the façade is of particular interest as it contrasts with conventional composition systems and with the inflexibility typical of traditional floor layouts. The bay windows, galleries and railings all have a detailed Art Nouveau style which was influenced by the work of Gaudí in Barcelona. The articulation of the the three recesses in its traditional façade are particularly striking, combining textures, colours and shapes. The angular bay windows of wood and wrought iron are a transitional element and the most distinctive feature.
