Fonda Suiza

This is the first of the buildings constructed by Rodolfo Ucha Piñeiro as accommodation for travellers. It was built in 1909. It is located on a corner plot and was planned as an extension to the former hotel. An intermediate bearing wall was constructed and then two floors of oak boards were added. On the façade, there is detailed design on the parapets and the railings using wrought iron and cement. This work was financed by the Rioboo brothers in 1909 and was the first commission in which Ucha Piñeiro used an Art Nouveau design. The characteristics of this new style appear in the door and window frames with Beaux Arts and Sezession decorations, as well as on the balconies which were built in cement or with iron bars and decorated with floral and plant motifs.
